Congratulations to our 2018 NC-ASTA College Scholarship Winner: Dixie Ortiz
Dixie Ortiz is currently an undergraduate music education student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has been playing violin since 5th grade, and music has changed her life. As an educator and violinist, she aspires to increase access to high quality string instruction for all students, regardless of race and socioeconomic status. Dixie is inspired greatly by years of guidance from her teachers and professors, and endeavors to play the same role for her current and future students. She has recently won the Strings Magazine Edith Eisler Scholarship, and her research study, Near Peer Mentorship as a Model for Private Music Instruction, placed 3rd in the Arts and Humanities category at UNCG’s 12th Annual Thomas Undergraduate Research and Creativity Expo.
